Vault risks

Both Senior and Junior can lose money. Junior takes losses first. This reduces Senior’s exposure to an initial loss but does not eliminate it. A vault is an investment in assets and contracts, not a guaranteed USDC balance.

Strategy and asset losses

An underlying borrower, issuer or protocol can fail to return value. A token can trade below its expected redemption value. A stablecoin can lose its peg, and an issuer can restrict transfers or redemption. A strategy can be concentrated in several positions that depend on the same source of risk.

Different protocol names do not prove diversification. Two markets may depend on the same issuer, borrower or asset. Allocations and adapters explains this look-through view.

Junior and Senior losses

Junior is first-loss capital and can be depleted. If Junior is exhausted, further losses affect Senior. The Junior cushion can shrink over time. Its size is not fixed insurance purchased outside the vault.

Recovery rules govern how value returned after an incident is allocated. A recovery state does not promise recovery of your original deposit. Read the loss mechanics.

Liquidity and waiting

Recorded asset value can exceed cash available for withdrawal. External redemption periods, high lending utilisation, thin swap markets, coverage constraints and pauses can delay funding. Waiting shares remain exposed to gains and losses.

The end of a notice period does not guarantee immediate claimable cash. Withdrawals explains the stages.

Contract and valuation risk

Bugs in the core, adapters or external programs can cause loss or prevent operations. Price feeds and redemption values can be stale, unavailable or wrong. Freshness checks and conservative bounds reduce certain risks but can also stop an operation when required information is unavailable.

Audits and tests are evidence about particular versions and scopes. They do not prove that losses cannot occur.

Management and operational risk

The strategy depends on configured roles, transaction submission and external infrastructure. An executor outage can delay exits from positions. Admins and guardians have defined powers. Some can restrict deposits, allocation or withdrawal funding. Upgrade authority is a separate consideration from ordinary vault management.

Interface and wallet risk

A misleading site or an unintended wallet signature can harm you independently of the investment. Verify the domain, network and transaction. Never disclose a recovery phrase or private key to obtain support.

Use due diligence to review a vault and who controls what to understand its trust assumptions.
