# Direct deposits and withdrawals (/akashi/deposit-and-withdraw)

A direct deposit through Akashi opens or adds to a position in the external protocol you selected. Akashi builds the supported transaction. Your wallet signs it. The external protocol controls the position’s accounting, fees and exit rules.

## Before depositing [#before-depositing]

Open the opportunity’s details and confirm its identity, asset, strategy and risks. Check which action the interface supports. You need the correct token on the correct network and SOL for transaction and account costs.

Review external terms such as utilisation, redemption periods, liquidity ranges or leverage where relevant. Do not apply a vault’s Junior cushion to a direct position: it has no such protection unless the external product separately implements it.

## Deposit [#deposit]

Choose an amount, review the quote or preview and inspect the wallet transaction. Sign only the action you intended. Wait for confirmation and check the resulting position or receipt token.

If the page reports an error after submission, check the transaction signature before retrying. The transaction could already have succeeded while the interface failed to refresh.

## Withdraw [#withdraw]

Use the supported withdrawal control for that position. Review the expected asset and received amount. Some protocols return a receipt, queued request or partially completed action rather than immediate spendable tokens.

The external protocol can refuse or delay an exit when liquidity is unavailable or its conditions are not met. A visible position value does not override those rules.

## If Akashi is unavailable [#if-akashi-is-unavailable]

A website outage does not erase the on-chain position. You may be able to manage a direct position using the external protocol’s official interface, subject to its support and rules. Keep public addresses and transaction signatures so you can identify the position.

A vault is different: its external positions belong to the vault, while you hold tranche shares. Your exit uses the vault’s request, funding and claim process. Read [vault withdrawals](/invest/withdraw).

[Wallets and transactions](/akashi/wallets-and-transactions) explains confirmations. [Troubleshooting](/resources/troubleshooting) covers missing balances and failed actions.
